Position Summary:

Rutgers University-Camden is seeking a Director of Campus Activities. The Director is the chief architect of Rutgers University–Camden’s campus activities — cultivating an energetic, inclusive, and engaging environment where students feel connected, inspired, and proud to be Raptors. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Director leads efforts to deliver a premier student experience by designing opportunities that foster belonging, strengthen school pride, and create transformational “peak moments” that students will remember for a lifetime.

This position blends strategic vision with hands-on leadership, overseeing signature campus traditions, supporting more than 60 recognized student organizations, developing pathways for community engagement, and integrating co-curricular programming with academic learning. The Director also develops and implements comprehensive marketing and communication strategies that expand the reach, visibility, and impact of campus activities, while serving as a trusted communication advisor to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. In collaboration with faculty, staff, community organizations, and University Advancement, the Director will work toward securing sponsorships and donor support to enhance programming and leadership initiatives.
In addition to leading campus-wide programming, the Director plays a key role in cultivating a vibrant campus culture by designing events that foster connection, celebration, and pride. These efforts are intentionally aligned with the academic mission to ensure inclusive and holistic experiences for both commuter and residential students. Signature events such as Welcome Week, Homecoming, and Finals Week programming are planned and executed with attention to student life learning outcomes and a balanced portfolio of social, multicultural, academic, service, and wellness offerings.

The Director also oversees student leadership development and organization support, including recognition, training, and compliance for all student groups, with a special focus on Fraternity and Sorority Affairs. Leadership training programs are designed to build transferable skills in communication, teamwork, cultural competency, and project management. Acting as a liaison between student leaders and campus administration, the Director ensures that student voices are reflected in institutional priorities.
Marketing and communications are central to the role, with the Director responsible for crafting event promotion strategies, managing social media outreach, and analyzing engagement data to guide improvements. Collaboration with Rutgers-Camden Marketing & Communications helps amplify student life stories and increase visibility of campus traditions and initiatives.
As a student advocate, the Director maintains a consistent and approachable presence at events, partners with the Dean of Students Office to address student concerns, and provides support for student conduct processes when needed. The role also includes regular assessment through surveys and analytics to evaluate program effectiveness, monitor student leader academic performance, and inform continuous improvement strategies.
Operationally, the Director supervises professional and student staff, manages departmental budgets, and oversees procurement and vendor relations in compliance with university policies.

This comprehensive leadership role is essential to shaping a transformative and memorable student experience at Rutgers–Camden.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in student activities, campus programming, or related student affairs leadership roles.
• Demonstrated experience in marketing, communications, event planning, fundraising, community relations, public relations, and strategic communication.
• Proven expertise in designing event marketing plans, managing social media strategies, and analyzing engagement metrics (impressions, engagement rates, participation data).
• Experience collaborating with Advancement or Development offices to secure sponsorships, partnerships, or donor support.
• Strong budget management, staff supervision, and program assessment skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse campus and community populations.

Physical Demands & Work Environment: Availability to work evenings and weekends to support campus events and activities.
