On March 21, Governor Phil Murphy announced extensive measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19, which mandated the closure of all physical retail businesses deemed to be nonessential. He also issued a “stay at home order” that requested all residents remain in their homes, to the best of their ability, for foreseeable future.

The financial consequences facing businesses have been significant and unfortunately, are going to continue. However, as Governor Murphy recently announced on April 13, New Jersey and several of our neighboring states are taking slow steps towards discussing what the reopening of the economy should look when appropriate to do so.

Without question, the health and safety of all New Jersey residents must remain the priority. However, the CCSNJ would like to hear from our members directly on the issue of reopening the economy. We would like to invite you to join the CCSNJ Economic Reopening and Recovery Working Group. This group will trade information, ideas and best practices, which the CCSNJ will use to inform policymakers of the tools New Jersey needs to reopen the economy when it is deemed in the state’s best interest to do so.

Specifically, we will look for information on:

• what should the reopening look like for various industries
• what differing (or similar) policies will help micro-businesses, independent contractors, small businesses, mid-sized employers and large employers
• what policies should be enacted to assure the economy is best positioned for a swift rebound
