BENECARE’S NETWORK STANDARDS HELP ENSURE MEMBERS CAN EASILY ACCESS CARE
NETWORK ADEQUACY IS NOT JUST ABOUT ACCESS POINTS
BeneCare members have more than 15,000 access points to participating dental professionals in our service areas. But access points are only one measure we use to calculate the adequacy of our networks.
BeneCare looks at three key factors:
Geography – our standard is to have at least one primary dentist within 10 miles of 90% of the members’ homes and one of each specialist within 20 miles.
Network capacity — we measure the practitioner-to-patient ratios to help ensure our networks can serve both existing and new patients.
Appointment availability — participating dental professionals are required to offer a routine appointment within 10 business days of a request and within 24 hours of an emergency request.
By using these criteria, BeneCare helps to ensure members not only have coverage, but coverage they can easily access and use. Plus, our network is growing in an environment where 1 in 6 dentists has stopped participating in a carrier’s network during the first two months of 2023.1
