Stuart Brereton has been named a vice president and chief sales officer of Delta Dental of New Jersey, the company announced.

Brereton, who assumed the role this month, is a veteran insurance industry leader with extensive sales and business development experience. He most recently served as regional vice president at Prudential Financial and spent many years before that at the Hartford, where he began as a sales executive, serving the large group market and ultimately ascending to the position of regional sales director.

In this role, Brereton will oversee the account management, individual, small group, core and large group sales teams, as well as sales operations, with the goal of increasing market share through gaining new accounts while retaining and growing current group customer accounts.

Delta Dental of N.J. CEO Dennis Wilson was excited to make the announcement.

“Stu’s proven track record of successfully building and leading sales teams and establishing challenging sales plans and goals makes him well-suited to sustain the great work our sales team has delivered over the years,” he said. “As the newest addition to the DDNJ Executive Leadership Team, Stu will accelerate our continued growth while supporting our mission of promoting oral health by providing accessible dental benefit programs of the highest quality, service and value to our communities.”

Brereton said he is eager to be a part of the team.

“I’ve watched Delta Dental of New Jersey consistently redefine the benefits market, introducing unique dental and vision products to consumers and small businesses, as evidenced by the recent launch of the Special Health Care Needs benefit that is helping expand access to dental care for children and adults with disabilities through enhanced coverage,” he said. “I look forward to working with the New Jersey and Connecticut sales teams to build on their success and advance the products and services we offer.”

Brereton graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Gettysburg College, where he was also a champion varsity swimmer and school record holder.
