Camden Prep’s New High School Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Camden Mayor Vic Carstarphen joined Uncommon Schools Co-CEOs Brett Peiser and Julie Jackson along with staff and students to cut the ribbon at Camden Prep’s new high school built upon the site of what was previously a long-abandoned industrial space. “I can't say enough about how inspiring it is as a leader in this city to see a school bring about children and inspire them and let them have dreams to be successful,” Mayor Carstarphen said. “Camden Prep, you have planted the seeds for our children to create the life that they want to live and lead in a life that they deserve, and that's legacy. And that's being a part of something special.” The $50 million, 72,000-square-foot building on Copewood Street building features state-of the-art classrooms, science labs, performance art spaces, multipurpose gymnasium, synthetic turf athletic field and an outdoor “quad” area. The high school is the latest new school building to be built in Camden, which has seen more than $550 million in investment in educational facilities in the last several years.
