Cherry Hill, NJ, November 30, 2021 — David P. May, MD, MBA, FACS, has been appointed Vice President and Chief Quality & Safety Officer at Jefferson Health – New Jersey.
In this role, Dr. May will lead the New Jersey division of Jefferson Health — made up of three acute care hospitals and numerous outpatient facilities — in its goal of delivering consistent, high value, coordinated care and standard-setting patient outcomes across the continuum of care.
Dr. May will also be responsible for overseeing quality, patient safety, infection control, clinical risk management, patient experience and outcomes and managing Jefferson’s leading enterprise safety management sytem, OnPoint.
He joins Jefferson from Shore Medical Center, where he had served as Chief of General Surgery since 2018 and as Chair of its Hospital Quality & Safety Committee since 2014. Dr. May also served as President of the multi-specialty Shore Physicians Group in Somers Point from 2012 to his appointment at Jefferson Health, and was a board member and Chair of the Quality Committee of Share Quality partners ACO (Accountable Care Organization) in Somers Point.
A graduate of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Dr. May completed his Residency in General Surgery at Temple in 2001, and also holds an MBA from the Fox School of Business at Temple University. He served as a Preceptor for the Thomas Jefferson University Physician Assistant Program from 2017-2019.
Board certified in Surgery, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Association of Physician Leaders, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Dr. May resides in Sea Isle City, NJ.
