Earlier this year, FPBC did not know where we were going to be by year’s end. We just knew that we had to move our office. Where would we go? What if we couldn’t afford a new place? I was notably concerned. The irony was not lost on us. We're a homeless organization! Thinking about our families who are often in limbo, what if I were a parent who had to move my kids with no place to go? 

One such family is Lisa's family. Despite working, her kids in nursery school and a place to be, Lisa lost her home with her mom's passing in the springtime.

Now she had no place to be and then things worsened when she was forced to move out and into a hotel. Fortunately, FPBC was able to put Lisa and family in a hotel for a few weeks while she worked and looked for housing. However, when the job she loved didn’t work out with her childcare needs, social services suggested she move to a shelter in a different county. (This is because there is no shelter yet in this county.) But with the help and encouragement of our social worker, Lisa and family were able to secure transitional housing in this county. FPBC was able to help them move and to make plans for a better future. Today Lisa has a place in Burlington Co. and opportunities for better job that is closer to her kids each day. FPBC continues to provide guidance and support as the family adjusts, and Lisa returns to work.
