Jefferson Health – NJ Chief Nursing Officer Helene Burns Named 

President of Nurse Leaders New Jersey (ONL-NJ)

Cherry Hill, NJ, January 6, 2022 — Helene Burns, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Jefferson Health - New Jersey has been named President of Nurse Leaders New Jersey (ONL-NJ) for a two-year term beginning in January 2022. With more than 600 members,     ONL-NJ engages and develops nurse leaders in advocacy, research, education, mentorship, and collaborative relationships. Burns, who became a member of the organization in 2008, is also a member of its Nursing Workplace Environment and Staffing Councils Task Force, and served as        Co-Chair of the Education Committee.

In addition, Jefferson Health – New Jersey Assistant Vice President of Clinical Services, Diane Juliano, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, has been appointed to the ONL-NJ Board for a two-year term.

In her role at Jefferson Health – New Jersey, Dr. Burns has overall responsibility for patient care services and nursing operations, with oversight of its more than 1,400 RNs and nursing staff. In 2018, she played a key role in Jefferson Health – New Jersey earning Nursing Magnet Designation®, considered the “gold standard” for nursing care. An inspiring and engaged leader, Burns has championed many key initiatives linking patient and employee satisfaction, including leading a healthy work environment nursing council with clinical nurses, enculturing shared governance councils within the organization, and improving nurse communication through nursing hourly rounds and bedside communication initiatives. Burns has also implemented several nursing retention initiatives, including Nurse Intern, New-to-Practice Nurse Residency, Perioperative Residency, Critical Care Residency and Nurse Mentorship Programs. With more than 40 years of experience in the health care industry, in 2018, she was honored with the Gloucester County Women of Achievement Award.

Burns received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Health Systems Executive Leadership from University of Pittsburgh (2018). She earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (1981) and her Master of Science in Nursing degree (1994) from Widener University in Chester, PA. She frequently serves as a preceptor for nursing students in master- and doctoral-level programs. In 2019, Burns joined The Joint Commission Chief Nurse Executive Advisory Council. She is a national speaker on various topics, including the role of a Chief Nursing Officer in a Healthy Work Environment. Burns actively serves on two nursing boards - Widener University School of Nursing and Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden. She is a board-certified Nurse Executive, Advanced, through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Dr. Juliano — who was recently promoted to her current position as Assistant Vice President of Clinical Services —  joined Jefferson New Jersey in 2019 as Corporate Director of Nursing for the Stratford hospital. A resident of North Wildwood, NJ, Juliano earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2019 at La Salle University, and received her MSN in Nursing Leadership and an MBA from Wilmington University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Stockton University in Pomona, NJ. With more than 20 years of nursing and leadership experience, Juliano has been a member of ONL-NJ since 2006 and currently serves on its Marketing Committee.
