Johnston Enterprises Family of Companies Celebrates Key Milestones

Employees, family and friends of Agate Construction, Penn-Jersey Building Materials and Tuckahoe Sand & Gravel gathered at a gala event to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Agate Construction’s founding and the 20th Anniversary of the acquisition of Penn-Jersey Building Materials and Tuckahoe Sand & Gravel.
President Jim Johnston III, in a motivating speech to guests said, “Our success to date is due to our focus on continuous improvement by the great people here, our employees and vendors, which provide the quality, service and innovative solutions to our clients’ most challenging projects.”
Known as the 40/20 Anniversary, and even more anticipated due to covid delays, the celebration was also enjoyed by valued clients, vendors and additional Johnston Enterprises affiliates, Keystone Foundations LLC and Scofield Marine Contractors & Engineers LLC.

In 1981 James E. Johnston, Jr. , a Civil Engineering graduate of Manhattan College and licensed Professional Engineer founded Agate Construction in Cape May County, NJ.
Johnston’s son James, III, a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, joined the company in 1992. Subsequently serving in various capacities including Project Manager, Estimator and Director of Operations, Jim Johnston III was named President of Agate in June 2004.
During the last 40 plus years, Agate Construction has safely completed more than 400 Heavy Civil and Marine Construction projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region for US Army Corps of Engineers, US Coast Guard, PSA Penn Terminals, SJ Port Corporation, Port Authority of NY/NJ, NJDEP Coastal Engineering, NJDOT, DRPA, NJ Turnpike Authority, NJ Transit, SEPTA, NYCEDC and many other clients.
In 1999 the Johnston family completed the purchase of Penn-Jersey Building Materials and Tuckahoe Sand & Gravel.
Penn-Jersey Building Materials supplies ready-mix concrete to the leading concrete contractors all through South Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania from plants located in Egg Harbor Township and Bridgeport, NJ.
Since 1950, Tuckahoe Sand & Gravel has produced and delivered quality concrete sand for the top tier ready-mix concrete suppliers throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. We also supply premium golf course products to premier courses throughout New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
