Camden, NJ– April 9, 2024– The Latin American Economic Development Association, Inc. (LAEDA), a cornerstone of community economic development in South Jersey, proudly announces an ambitious new project aimed at empowering local food entrepreneurs: the Food Business Development Center (FBDC). Set to be located in the City of Camden, this groundbreaking initiative is designed to address a critical barrier to growth for many in the food industry: the lack of access to licensed and inspected kitchen facilities. 

For 37 years, LAEDA has witnessed the potential of countless food entrepreneurs hindered by the challenges of securing appropriate kitchen space. Whether catering, producing food products, or operating food trucks, these entrepreneurs have faced significant obstacles in expanding their businesses. The FBDC is LAEDA's proactive response to these challenges, offering not just kitchen space but a comprehensive ecosystem designed to foster the startup and growth of underserved food businesses.

The proposed facility will feature four fully-equipped kitchens, as well as cold, freezer, and dry storage. Additionally, food truck operators will find dedicated parking spaces, and all entrepreneurs will have access to a suite of training courses specifically tailored to their needs. This holistic approach aims to ensure that local food entrepreneurs have the resources and support necessary to thrive. 

Located in the heart of Camden, the FBDC will serve food entrepreneurs from Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester counties, with a special focus on nurturing talent within the City of Camden itself. LAEDA is committed to making the FBDC a collaborative project, incorporating community feedback into every aspect of its development. To this end, LAEDA is hosting a series of community meetings, inviting all interested parties to engage with the project. Attendees will have the opportunity to view project renderings, learn about the equipment and facilities, discuss the fee schedule, and contribute their ideas on making the FBDC a valuable community resource.
