Ryan P. Goodwin Joins the Gibbons Business & Commercial Litigation Group
Gibbons P.C. is pleased to announce that Ryan P. Goodwin has joined the firm’s Business & Commercial Litigation Group as a Director in the Newark, New Jersey, office.
Mr. Goodwin brings a wealth of litigation, investigation, government, and regulatory experience, particularly in the healthcare arena. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for CareOne, leading legal operations for the nationwide healthcare continuum that operates post-acute nursing and assisted living facilities, long-term acute care hospitals, hospice providers, and a long-term care pharmacy company. His background also includes serving as Deputy General Counsel for University Hospital in Newark, where he managed a corporate, legal, and government relations team. In both roles, he counseled executive management on litigation strategy, risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and federal and state government affairs. He also provided strategic and transactional guidance concerning HIPAA privacy and security, anti-kickback and false claims act laws, and healthcare licensing, and performed and managed internal investigations.
Mr. Goodwin also brings public policy experience, having held positions in both state and federal government. He served as Senior Policy Advisor and Assistant Counsel in the Office of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, where he counseled the Governor on legal, regulatory, and legislative matters related to healthcare, insurance, social services, and banking. He also led negotiations with the state legislature on the passage of a dozen new laws to combat the opioid epidemic. Earlier in his career, Mr. Goodwin served as communications director and legislative aide to U.S. Representative Christopher H. Smith (NJ-04).
In addition, Mr. Goodwin was a litigation associate at Lowenstein Sandler LLP, where he handled a range of complex litigation matters, from commercial business disputes to white collar criminal defense to state and federal appellate litigation. He also performed sensitive internal corporate investigations where he issued recommendations for improved compliance, governance, and policy.
Mr. Goodwin clerked for the Hon. Paul B. Matey of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He earned his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law, cum laude, and his B.A. from The Catholic University of America. He is admitted to practice in the states of New Jersey and New York, United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, United States Courts of Appeals for the Third and Fourth Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court.
