Samaritan recently honored Marlton resident Hospice Nurse Meena Edwards for 20 years of service at this year’s Winterfest celebration – an annual event recognizing employees and volunteers for their service milestones and their continued dedication to Samaritan’s mission of service.

“Meena is a trusting, knowledgeable and passionate member of our hospice care team,” said Mary Ann Boccolini, president and chief executive officer, Samaritan. “She has delivered top-notch care to thousands of patients and their families throughout her tenure at Samaritan.”

As a hospice nurse, Edwards is a vital part of the interdisciplinary team. She educates patients and their families about the hospice journey, medications, and providing hands-on care for their loved one. She performs assessments, handles wound care, collaborates with a patient’s other health care providers, and more. Edwards also trains incoming nurses and serves as a program and technology expert.

Along with caring for the South Jersey community, she also cares for our world. As part of Samaritan’s Global Partnership, Edwards and her son went to Uganda with a travel team to visit Samaritan’s sister hospice center, Kawempe Home Care, in 2017. During this international mission, she educated Kawempe Home Care’s staff about providing wound care for children living with TB, HIV, AIDS and cancer.

“I am honored to make a difference for so many people, especially during difficult times,” said Edwards. “My work as a hospice nurse has been more rewarding, and means so much more, than any other job I’ve ever held.”
