Y.A.L.E. School Hosts Third Annual Tri-State DisAbility Art Show

Member Announcements

Y.A.L.E. School NJ, serving students with disabilities age 3 to 21, will host the Third Annual Tri-State DisAbility Art Show April 28 & 29. The event coincides with and celebrates Autism Awareness Month.

The Art Show showcases artwork including paintings, sculptures, mixed media displays and more from students with disabilities in grades K-12 and ages 18-21 with an IEP or 504 Plan. Students with disabilities from public and private schools across New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware are invited to submit their artwork for the show.

“We are thrilled to once again shine a light on student artists by hosting this amazing program,” said Karen Donnelly, art teacher, Y.A.L.E. School. “The Tri-State DisAbility Art Show offers students with disabilities from throughout the region the chance to come together and express themselves through art in a safe, loving and respectful environment. It’s a truly inspiring and visually stunning experience.”

Last year, more than 300 students from 30 public and private schools throughout the tri-state area participated, including schools specializing in Autism spectrum disorders, emotional and behavioral disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments and more. Donnelly says expects the turnout to be larger this year.

There will be an opening reception on April 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Y.A.L.E. School’s Ellisburg campus in Cherry Hill, followed by open gallery hours on April 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Art Show features juried categories, where students may opt to submit their artwork for judging by partner organizations the Penn Museum, the Art Educators of New Jersey Advisory Council, Pennsylvania Art Education Association, Perkins Center for the Arts and Say It With Clay. Those organizations, along with Arts Ed NJ, will also host hands-on art activities for students and families in attendance at the Art Show. Young student musicians will also perform music during the show.

Art submissions may be mailed to Y.A.L.E. School’s Ellisburg campus, located at 11 Connecticut Avenue, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002, or dropped off at that location on either April 19 or April 20 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Entries may also be dropped off to specialized Art Show boxes located at Eastwick Library in Philadelphia and Moorestown Public Library in New Jersey.
